Arnold Schwarzenegger speaks, son Patrick tweets about split

It was inevitable. Arnold Schwarzenegger and Maria Shriver are such public personalities they couldn't avoid addressing their separation for long.

And, in fact, Schwarzenegger spoke about it last night as he was honored at the 63rd Israel Independence Day Celebration in Los Angeles.

"I want to take a moment to acknowledge and thank our many friends and family for the tremendous amount of support and love that you have given us in the last 24 hours," Schwarzenegger said, adding that he had spoken to Shriver an hour earlier.

"We both love each other very much ... and we are taking it one day at a time."

Son Patrick, 17, a high school senior, took to twitter to comment: "Appreciate all your messages. Small speed bump I'n life, luckily we own hummers, we will cruise right over it. All will be okay. #peace."
