Cheryl Cole never expected her marriage to Ashley to tend

As Cheryl Cole walked away from The X Factor and Simon Cowell, the man she'd trusted to make it all happen for her in the US, it wasn't just her mum Joan who consoled her.

Shockingly there was one other voice to offer loyalty: her cheating ex Ashley Cole, 30.

Ashley has made no secret of his plan to woo her back and now it seems Simon has played right into his hands.

With Cheryl, 27, back in the UK, Ashley has stepped up his efforts to win her back 'by the summer'.

Earlier this month he changed his BlackBerry Messenger status to: ?I want my wife back.'

For months he's been sending flirty texts; last week he spent more than �1,000 on her favourite lilies and red roses; and he'd already planned to visit her next month in LA.

?When she's feeling under pressure, Ashley has the ability to calm her and boost her confidence,' says a close pal.

?They talk every day and she always tries to speak with him before she goes to sleep.

'His words of encouragement are like music to her ears.'
