Comedians are a protective bunch. Jump on one's back, and the rest will be right there to defend him. Louis C.K., star of F/X's Louie, is standing by Tracy Morgan, who is under fire for a homophobic rant in which he said he would stab his own son if he turned out to be gay.

"Tracy Morgan said something wrong, evil, cruel, ignorant and hilarious," C.K. said on Twitter Wednesday morning. "He was on a comedy stage, not at a pulpit."
Morgan stirred up a storm of anger from gay activists, entertainers and tolerance advocates everywhere after launching into an anti-gay speech during a stand-up routine at Nashville's Ryman Auditorium earlier this month.
The comedian joked that being "gay was something kids learn from the media and programming" and that "gays needed to quit being p*ssies and not be whining about something as insignificant as bullying."
Morgan also said that if his own son ever realized he was gay, "he better come home and talk to him like a man" or Morgan would "pull out a knife and stab" him to death.

So, violent homophobia ... or just a really tasteless joke?
"It is clear to anyone with an ability to reason and understand people that he didn't mean a word of what he said," C.K. wrote. "He was f***ing around."
C.K. adds that while he "hates violence and discrimination against gays or anyone, I was not offended."
"If every word a person says has to be right and balanced and fair, I will jump off a tall thing onto a hard place."
Despite apologizing profusely over the past few weeks, Morgan himself has fallen from a very tall thing onto a hard place. And considering the heat on him right now, C.K. might want to be careful he doesn't join him.
