Let?s face it, some celebrity children are just destined to be awesome like their parents. Kingston and Zuma Rossdale are two celebrity children whofall into that category.
Over the weekend, Kingston,5,was seen sporting a blue mohawk and Zuma, 2, was beating a child?s size drum kit while shoe shopping in West Hollywood with parents Gavin Rossdale and Gwen Stefani. Zuma was looks comfortable and happy rocking out on the drums while his big brother is busy picking out shoes. Kingston settled on a pair of brown work boots and to celebrate the successful shopping day the boys were treated to some fro-yo.
PHOTOS: Kingston And Zuma Rossdale Phone Mommy
These kids are too cool for words. They are already attending Hollywood parties and red carpet events, and their eccentric styles probably have all the other kids at the park looking on with envy. These kids make me jealous for my unborn children. To top it off, Zuma looks totally badass with his arm in a cast, and I like to believe he was attempting some totally awesome ninja move when he fell off the countertop.
Your parents' divorce might be setting the stage for your own.
Shannon*, a 48 year old client of mine, recently explained her "aha" moment when discussing the issues behind her impending divorce. She married her husband because he "completed" her -- masking low self-esteem and feelings of not being worthy of love.
It wasn't until after therapy and introspection that she realized she had fallen into a relationship trap: Trying to fill a void of lost love left by her parents' divorce, and the loss of a relationship with her mother, when she was just 5 years old.
Seeking a rescue, not a relationship?
Shannon considered her husband a real catch. She thought her knight in shining armor cared about her every move. He guided her through life, managed the finances and left all aspects of parenting to her.
In fact, this perfect partner repeated the patterns and disillusionments experienced in childhood. Shannon experienced controlling and emotionally abusive behavior, jealousy and an uninvolved husband. She felt this was ok: She'd grown up fearing abandonment and deflecting anger from her stepmother.
You see, when Shannon's parents divorced, her mother left, with what seemed like no concern for her (the truth revealed many years later in adulthood when she regained a relationship with her mother); her father remarried, but this union did not provide her with the love and nurturing she so desperately needed. What happened in childhood then, has a significant impact on how romantic relationships are handled now, as an adult.
Although many children are resilient, and grow up thinking of themselves as just regular kids, not children of divorce, there are some children who are impacted emotionally in the long term. When a parent abandons a child, that child often believes that there was something wrong with him--or herself--and carries this belief into adulthood.
While the lack of a relationship with a parent can have a significant impact on romantic relationships for a child later in life, there is a debate amongst researchers on this topic. Some say, these individuals are affected for life. Others feel that with work, an individual can learn to come to terms with it, heal and develop rich and successful romantic partnerships.
According to Dr. Michelle Mitcham, a professor of counseling and a divorce expert, an individual's self esteem is affected because they feel rejected. The loss of the parental relationship due to divorce results in a lack of trust.
"People have different cognitions [beliefs], and this leaves certain behaviors. If your cognition is on some level, I'm a bad person, or I'm not worthy, or at some level there is something that you think you did to deserve it, the lines get blurred. What messages are you giving yourself, even if they are subliminal?"
Dr. Mitcham helps her patients regain their self-esteem and trust, so that they are able to develop a positive outlook, and healthy romantic relationships. She helps her patients cope with the loss of a parent or a fragmented relationship with the parent, and to heal by working on these 5 significant messages.
1. Look to your family of origin for answers.
It is important to resolve any issues that could be playing out in your relationship and are undermining it. For instance, people get into a relationship looking for things that they were missing growing up. If the relationship looks attractive, individuals may leap into it hoping for nurturing and love for themselves without taking the time to really get to know the other person. Slow down and get to know prospective partners.
2. Stop repeating the same relationship mistakes.
People often marry, or get into a relationship for all the wrong reasons. They are looking to feel complete, because they haven't resolved things in the past. Many times, they don't feel that they are worthy. Then they find themselves in an unfulfilling relationship, not really sure why they are giving into that relationship. Figure out what you are looking for, and love yourself -- you are worthy of love and respect, and worthy of a healthy relationship.
3. You don't have to be less of who you are to be in a good relationship.
Write out the ideal relationship: What you need in someone that you are compatible with. You'll know that you are leaning towards a good relationship when you don't have to be less of who you are in that relationship. You have to feel complete and feel like you have to stand on your own two feet before you can be happy in that relationship. The other person doesn't complete you because they are not the answer to your unresolved issues.
4. Normalize your feelings.
Uncover your issues and find out what you didn't receive growing up. Then you can fix it and move forward, because you understand the why, and how this changes your reactions. Remember you're not alone: Other people feel this way too.
5. Develop introspection and understanding.
You might want to work with a therapist or do some journaling to help you think through the issues, and what you need to do to fix them. Bottom line is you need to know that you are worthy of love and worthy of a nurturing relationship, and figure out what exactly that looks like to you.?
If you rush into a relationship without understanding where you were, then you won't know where you are going. Take time to understand what you have been through and why. There is hard work that needs to be done. While you may have lost a close loving relationship with a parent, you need to come to terms with that, and develop a loving relationship with yourself.
When you move in a positive direction from what you are used to, you very likely will feel some anxiety. Embrace it. It may sound clichd but it's true: You have to truly love yourself, before you can really love someone else.

Accompanying her man as he played host to a Sin City soiree, Kourtney Kardashian was alongside Scott Disick at the Paris Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas last night (July 2).
The E! reality star lovers were all dressed up as they hit up Sugar Factory for a bite to eat before arriving at Chateau Nightclub & Gardens for a Fourth of July weekend bash called "An Evening with Scott Disick".
Tweeting about his event in hopes of drawing an impressive crowd, Scott persuasively wrote, "chateau night club in vegas will 100 percent be the best party in vegas tonight! #july4thweekend"
Among those accepting the invite were Brittny and Lisa Gastineau, along with Colin Cunningham and Jareb Dauplaise.
Interestingly enough, Scott's party happened to be competing with Kourtney's brother's function, as Rob Kardashian was busy hosting his own gathering down the street at Jet nightclub in the Mirage Hotel and Casino.

Peter Andre doesn't say bad things about Katie Price to his kids
While Peter Andre searches for his ideal woman, he's decided to keep his romances well away from home.
After his painful divorce from Katie Price, 33, Pete dated Elen Rivas, but there was no smooching in front of his kids.
Junior and Princess have never seen Pete in bed with a date.
'It won't happen until I find the woman I'm going to marry,' he tells us.
'I don't want to confuse my kids.
'The other day my cousin Miranda, who helps out with the kids, was making my bed and Princess came in, put her hands on her hips and told her to go out of Daddy's room because girls aren't allowed in there.
'It was very funny.
'My kids have never seen me be intimate with any woman other than their mother.'
Pete, 38, also never criticises his ex in front of their children.
'They'll never hear me saying anything negative about Kate,' he insists.
'If they ask anything, I just talk about something else.'

According to court papers recently filed by supermodel Linda Evangelista, her son, Augustin James, 4, was fathered by Hayek's husband, Franois-Henri Pinault. Hayek and Pinault wed in 2009, but dated since 2006, around the time Evangelista got pregnant. (Pinault has two other children ? a son and a daughter ? from his previous marriage, which ended in divorce in 2004.)
Now Evangelista has filed a petition seeking support from the French businessman, 49.
"In the filing, it says the child 'was born out of wedlock to [petitioner] Linda Evangelista, 46, and that [Pinault] acknowledged [her] allegation,' " a source familiar with the filing tells PEOPLE. "It says, 'It is decided that Pinault is the father of [Evangelista's son], Augustin James.' "
It has not been determined how much support Pinault will be obligated to pay for his child with Evangelista.
"All that's left is for a magistrate to go over the father's filings and make a determination of support, which will last until the child is 21," the source says. "[Pinault] is asking to be able to testify by phone."
Meanwhile, another source tells PEOPLE: "This is no Schwarzenegger case. No one was married. There was no infidelity."
The Pinault family's luxury goods empire is reportedly worth $16-18 billion. Pinault's 2010 salary was $5.4 million, according to Bloomberg Businessweek.
In New York, where the court papers were filed, the law requires a father to pay 17 percent of what he earns in child support. This would mean Pinault should owe around $920,000 for that year.
Reps for Hayek, 44, and Evangelista have not returned request for comment.

Sorry to Loisville, but Taylor Swift had to postpone her show in Louisville because of illness.
Taylor had to postpone under doctor orders. She tweeted to her fans that she?s sorry, and this is the first time she?s ever had to do this.
Hopefully it?ll be the only time.
She will come back to perform the show at the Yum Center on October 11th. Hope all the ticket buyers can still make it!
Taylor must have been pretty darn sick to cancel a show. She?s got another concert on Friday in Charlotte, North Carolina so we hope she feels better soon!

Maria Shriver has cited irreconcilable differences in divorce papers filed against Arnold Schwarzenegger in court.
Maria Shriver has filed for divorce from Arnold Schwarzenegger.
The 55-year-old writer cited irreconcilable differences in papers filed at the Los Angeles Superior Court yesterday (01.07.11), two months after he admitted to fathering a boy named Joseph with housekeeper Mildred Baena 13 years ago while he was still married to Maria.
She is seeking shared custody of their children Patrick, 17 and Christopher, 13, as well as seeking spousal support from the former Governor of California and asking him to pay her lawyer fees.
The couple also have grown up children 21-year-old Katherine and Christina, 19 from their 25 year marriage.
Whatever she did in the aftermath was taking care of her kids, trying to shield them.
Maria is said to not be angry at Mildred because of the affair, and confronted her after she saw the similarity between Joseph and Arnold.
A source said: "While Maria may not have been as angry as Mildred as she was at Arnold, her instinct would be to protect her family.
"Whatever she did in the aftermath was taking care of her kids, trying to shield them."
Arnold, 63, is reportedly already handing out a "significant" amount of child support to Maria.
A source said: "Arnold is paying a significant amount of child support. Arnold is also paying for his sons, Patrick and Christopher's private school bills."

This weekend, our friends at Moviefone are looking back at this year's most entertaining films -- so far. After all, we've reached the exact halfway point of 2011. We know plenty of critics predicted 'The Beaver' would be a turkey, so you might be surprised to see it kick off the Top Ten. Did your faves make our countdown?
10. 'The Beaver' Sure, we giggled like children at the title. We also scoffed at the notion that scandal-plagued Mel Gibson was the star (with a brown furry puppet on his hand, no less) of Jodie Foster's latest directorial effort. But we were pleasantly surprised to see this film was unlike anything either Oscar winner had done before. With an intense performance by Gibson and strong supporting acting from Anton Yelchin ('Star Trek'), the movie is both dark and humorous, and left us near tears by the end.
8. 'Beginners' Christopher Plummer and Ewan McGregor play father and son in this movie about accepting who you really are. Plummer's character drops two late-in-life bombshells: He comes out of the closet and announces he has terminal cancer, revealing both facts to his shell-shocked son at once. Heartfelt and genuine, this is the year's sleeper hit, so far.
7. 'Cedar Rapids' This indie, starring Ed Helms and Anne Heche, came and went in theaters, overshadowed by the disappointing likes of 'The Hangover Part II.' But few films this year made us laugh as hard, or charmed us more, than this flick. A great premise delivered by a stellar cast, the Midwest-set comedy also gave John C. Reilly his due as one of the flat-out funniest people alive.
6. 'Win Win' This movie, about real people with real problems, celebrates the great things that come from helping others. From star Paul Giamatti, to Alex Shaffer's knockout debut performance as a troubled teen, to a script both poignant and hilarious, 'Win Win' is a simple film done extraordinarily well. And that's about as much as we can ask for when going to the movies.
5. 'X-Men: First Class' After the disaster that was 'Wolverine,' we were praying 'First Class' would turn out okay. Thankfully, it exceeded our expectations. 'First Class' traces the origins of some of our favorite mutants, including Charles Xavier, Mystique, Magneto, Havok and Beast. As for the villain, you knew Sebastian Shaw (played brilliantly by Kevin Bacon) was a perfect pick after the awful things he did during the opening sequence.
4. 'Tree of Life' Terrence Malick's ambitious meditation on childhood, spirituality and evolution isn't for everybody -- the Brad Pitt drama earned both boos and the Palme d'Or at Cannes. But for those who believe that film is also an art form, 'Tree of Life' is a welcome respite from summer's onslaught of angry robots and juiced-up superheroes (though, be warned, there are dinosaurs).
3. 'Bridesmaids' Featuring a bevy of talented actresses, 'Bridesmaids' married raunchy humor with real relationship dilemmas. As a result, every new comedy released between now and Dec. 31 will compete with 'Bridesmaids' to be pronounced "Funniest Film of 2011." Applying a classic Judd Apatow slacker-who-must-grow-up formula to 'SNL' star Kristen Wiig (who co-wrote the screenplay), 'Bridesmaids' is a nonstop escalation of bickering, reconciliations and breakdowns. While everyone else debated what the hit meant for women in comedy, 'Bridesmaids' simply did one thing: deliver great comedy.
2. 'Midnight in Paris' It's not easy to convey how much we loved this Woody Allen movie, because if we gave away details, we'd spoil the magic for everyone who hasn't seen it yet. That said, 'Midnight' is the one movie we've seen this year that had us grinning ear-to-ear from beginning to end. Owen Wilson has never been better, and of the 40-some-odd films in Allen's repertoire, it's pretty amazing that he's still makin' 'em this full of surprises.
1. 'Super 8' Director J.J. Abrams lays out a tale so clearly inspired by '70s/'80s Steven Spielberg, the legend himself agreed to produce it. A mysterious monster attacks a sleepy Ohio town, and against all odds, some middle-school movie geeks uncover the truth and save their neighbors, and their planet. But the heart of 'Super 8' isn't its spectacular effects. It's the kids in the cast (including exceptional newcomer Joel Courtney as Joe Lamb) who truly bring the film to life. We haven't seen an ensemble of child actors this good since 'Stand by Me,' and that's some serious praise.

Evan Rachel Wood and Jamie Bell called it quits in 2006 after a year of dating.Looks like love is in the air in Hollywood.
"True Blood" star Evan Rachel Wood and the original "Billy Elliot", British actor Jamie Bell, were spotted together in New York City on Friday.
The former love birds were seen strolling through city streets wearing similar gray garb, with their arms around each other.
The two actors previously dated for a year in 2006, with Wood and Bell even getting matching "J" tattoos, but the romance eventually fizzled out.
"We had matching tattoos because we knew our love would last for ever," Wood once said. "Trouble is, it didn't, things happened, we split. But I don't regret the tattoo. It reminds me of a great, great period in my life."
Bell and Wood attended a movie premiere together in Dec. 2005. (Evan Agostini/Getty)
But things seem to have changed in the five years since the pair's last romance.
Wood, for one, has finally split from long time beau Marilyn Manson. Her on-again, off-again relationship with the rocker ended with a broken engagement last year.
Now, the actress appears to be singing to a different tune, praising the attributes of non-American men.
"Well, there's something about British men that's very charming and well mannered," she told the Telegraph.
Maybe there's one specific British man Wood is alluding to.

In a recent interview with Australia?s OK Magazine, Aaron Carter claims that Michael Jackson gave him cocaine when he was 15.
Carter says, ?I never talked about it?This is the first time. I do?I miss Michael?I have spent such incredible times with him. I did things with him that nobody else did?But I was also troubled about what he did to me.?
When asked if Jackson gave him wine, Carter said, ?Yes, he gave me wine. I mean, I could have refused, but I was 15.?
?He gave me cocaine,? he added, according to the magazine. ?I felt weird about that and other stuff? We spoke afterwards, hours and hours, on the phone. I admired Michael, but his behavior bothered me a lot. Then my mother called the police??
Although we can?t verify if Michael Jackson ever game Carter cocaine, we have no doubt that Aaron is an avid cocaine user. Below is a clip from the last time we spoke to Aaron in 2009. Can anybody figure out what he is saying???

More than 40 percent of the parking citations dismissed by City Hall's controversial Gold Card Desk were dropped without explanation, according to a final audit of the program released Thursday.
Used by public officials to challenge parking tickets, the desk came to light in an audit of the Department of Transportation released in May. Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa ordered the program halted after critics raised questions of preferential treatment. | Related story: Findings publicize 'Gold Card Desk' for city officials to request reviews of parking citations
Following up on her audit, Controller Wendy Greuel subpoenaed documents for the 1,026 citations that were dismissed by the two-member Gold Card Desk. Reviewing hundreds of documents and emails, she determined the Gold Desk dismissed 43 percent of the citations without any explanation.
"There's no comprehensive policy utilized for the dismissal of tickets," said Greuel.
Bruce Gillman a spokesman for the Department of Transportation, conceded that the agency had practiced poor record-keeping procedures.
"We have implemented all of the controller's recommendation," he said.
A review of the tickets, issued
from 2008-2010, show that 75 percent of the requests for dismissal came from the Department of Transportation, and the rest came from City Council and other city offices. In August 2008, for instance, DOT interim General Manager Amir Sedadi asked that 150 tickets be dismissed because of a glitch in a parking kiosk in San Pedro. The tickets apparently weren't dismissed quickly enough, prompting follow-up emails from City Councilwoman Janice Hahn's office.
In another instance, a member of Greuel's own staff used the service. Ben Golombek, who was then Greuel's press secretary, asked the Gold Card desk to dismiss a 2008 citation issued to his mother, who he said was unfairly ticketed while dropping off a rental car. The ticket was tossed out.
On Thursday, Greuel's office called the discovery of Golombek - who now works for a state lawmaker - requesting to use the service "disappointing."
Former Building and Safety Department general manager Andrew Adelman, who resigned in 2009 amid a sex scandal, used the service a handful of times. He successfully challenged some tickets, but wasn't able to fight two parking citations totaling $140.
An email sent by Jimmy Blackman, then chief of staff to Villaraigosa, described being with a friend who received a ticket for parking at a failed meter.
"I can assure you that the meter was in fact broken and he was not trying to avoid paying 50 cents to park," Blackman wrote to Rita Robinson, then the head of DOT. "Normally, I would just have him pay the ticket, especially with our city's fiscal climate, but he is not in the position to do so at this time."
Robinson responded that the city had a "defective stock" of meters, then forwarded the email to the Gold Card Desk, which ultimately dismissed the ticket.

SAN DIEGO -- A federal judge ruled Wednesday that the Tucson shooting rampage suspect can be forced to continue taking anti-psychotic drugs, rejecting a plea by defense attorneys that the decision by prison doctors merited more scrutiny.
U.S. District Judge Larry Burns' decision came after Jared Lee Loughner's attorneys filed an emergency request last week to prevent their client's forced medication without a judge's approval. Burns said he did not want to second-guess doctors at the federal prison in Springfield, Mo., who determined that Loughner was a danger.
Defense attorneys said Loughner had been forcibly medicated since June 21.
"I have no reason to disagree with the doctors here," Burns said. "They labor in this vineyard every day."
Prosecutors said in court papers that Loughner spit on his own attorney, lunged at her and had to be restrained by prison staff April 4. They mentioned an outburst during a March 28 interview with a mental health expert in which Loughner became enraged, cursed at her and threw a plastic chair at her twice.
Prosecutor Wallace Kleindienst said Wednesday that prison officials were also mindful that Loughner is accused of killing six people and injuring 13 others, including Rep. Gabrielle Giffords.
"This is a person who is a ticking time-bomb," Kliendienst said by closed-circuit television from Tucson.
Reuben Cahn, an attorney for Loughner, said prison doctors failed to adequately consider alternatives to medication, like using restraints and mouth guards or taking away his chair. He noted that Loughner is being held in isolation.
"He really is not posing any risk to others," Cahn said.
Burns rejected defense claims that the prison forced the medications in an effort to make Loughner competent to stand trial, a bid that may have required a higher burden of proof that drugs were necessary. He said the key question was whether Loughner posed a danger and that prison doctors, not him, were best qualified to answer that.
Kleindienst assured the judge that prosecutors had no part in the decision to force the drugs on Loughner, who has pleaded not guilty to 49 charges in the Jan. 8 rampage that killed John Roll, the chief federal judge for Arizona.
Loughner, who was not at the hearing in San Diego and did not listen in, has been at the Missouri facility since May 28 after the judge concluded he was mentally unfit to help in his legal defense. Mental health experts had determined the 22-year-old college dropout suffers from schizophrenia and will try to make him psychologically fit to stand trial. He will spend up to four months at the facility.
If Loughner is later determined to be competent enough for trial, the court proceedings will resume.
If he isn't deemed competent at the end of his treatment, Loughner's stay at the facility can be extended. Loughner's lawyers haven't said whether they intend to present an insanity defense, but they noted in court filings that his mental condition will likely be a central issue at trial.
Wednesday's hearing was held in the San Diego courthouse where Burns is based. Burns was appointed to the case after all federal judges in Arizona recused themselves.
The judge had twice denied requests by Loughner's attorneys to be given notice before their client is drugged.
A prison administrative hearing about Loughner's medication was held June 14, without any of his attorneys present, and found that the suspect was a danger to himself. The warden upheld the decision June 20, the day before the treatments began.
Prosecutors said in a filing Tuesday that Loughner "is properly receiving medication."

I have some really big news I wanted to share with you all!
For the month of July, Clairol Natural Instincts has asked me to partake in their 30 Day Daily Refreshment Calendar ? each day, the calendar will feature tips coupled with a challenge focused on nutrition, fitness, lifestyle and beauty.
This is a big deal for me ? I am a creature of over-scheduling and yet curious routine and monotony ? I don?t often try anything new, and hardly ever do anything for myself! The calendar will largely live on the Clairol Facebook page, and each day will find a new way to challenge followers to refresh their routine in a new way ? something I so totally need!
The tips were collected from online influencers, Clairol Color Director Marie Robinson and consumers ? so they are real people, with really busy lives ? who know a lot about life needing a little refreshing!
So, here?s the OTHER big news: My first challenge was to dye my OWN hair!!!
Y
es, I did so last week ? but I wasn?t allowed to tell anyone until now. Imagine me, having to hide from Twitter when I do anything??? Anything at all??
But I had a date with celebrity stylist (and Clairol Color Director) Marie Robinson at her salon in New York City.
Due to my extreme blondness, no one believes this, but I don?t dye my hair (except for a very unfortunate red highlights incident in college) ? I?ve often been afraid to because of all the chemical relaxing I do. But Marie instantly put my mind at ease, and told me all about what we?d be using on my hair, Natural Instincts Vibrant Collection shade 10 in Extra Light Blonde.
It?s summer, and I am married to my blondness ? I didn?t want to change the color, but I did want to REFRESH it ? as in look brighter and sunnier for summer, and that?s exactly what this did (as you?ll see in the photos and video!)
I was blown away that the process took 10 minutes ? I can?t even order sushi that fast ? the new Vibrant Collection is a permanent hair color option that can lighten your hair two to three levels and provide you with a more transformational change; covering up to 100% grays.
Not that I have gray?yet?I hope. But it?s in my mind!
I was really pleased with the color and the application ? in fact; I did it ALL myself, under Marie?s guidance, and could totally do it myself at home in the future (and will!).
The vain part of me really appreciated the high-quality gloves included for the initial color application, and then you get another fresh pair for the refresher! They totally think of everything.
The Week 2 Color Refresher is a color treatment formulated to refresh hair color with the tones that have faded in the two weeks following the initial hair coloring transformation ? I?ll be using that in two weeks or so and report my findings! Meanwhile, please stay tuned right here on MyGloss, as well as Clairol?s Twitter and Facebook (and mine!) for updates.

Five years ago you could be forgiven for thinking that the best networkers only used face-to-face networking methods and tools. In fact, it was only this week, that I was having a discussion, rather ironically on Twitter, with a coach who told me that the best networkers only used face-to-face networking. Perhaps even worse than this rather short-sighted view, was her belief that small business owners didn?t have time to be using online networking as they were too busy running their own business. Mmmm. Let?s just say that I didn?t agree, and I will explain why in this article.
In my experience, many business owners fall into the trap of thinking online OR face-to-face networking, rather than combining the two different types of networking for maximum effect. Did you know that LinkedIn and Twitter are fantastic tools for keeping in touch with people after meeting them at an event? Wouldn?t your life as a networker be SO much easier if you could actually book some time to meet up with someone at a networking event ? rather than leaving it all to chance? Did you know that you can normally use LinkedIn & Twitter to make contact with someone at a face-to-face networking event, BEFORE the event?
Let?s talk about the time pressures which you face as a female and a business owner. If you are anything like me your to do list is never ending ? and with the typical demands that your business and family places on you it is not always possible to get to a physical networking event. But, your marketing and business plans rely on your growing and maintaining a network?
This is where online networking has the edge over face-to-face networking. It is always possible to indulge in some online networking in the odd 5 minutes of the day.
Many female business owners are fantastic at gaining opportunities via social media and so have discounted the possibilities that face-to-face networking can bring. Face-to-face networking doesn?t have to mean attending a formal networking group. Do you have your networking hat on when at social events? You never know what possibilities a hen weekend may offer? At a recent 40th birthday party for my brother-in-law, I received a great lead from another one of my relations. When attending training events, have you got your networking hat on? Who on the course list would you like to stay in touch with after the event?
Many people think because I am a huge advocate of online networking, that I don?t see the value or point of face-to-face networking. They couldn?t be more wrong.
A face-to-face physical meeting can generate trust far quicker than a purely online relationship. Indeed, it is rare to find a very strong business relationship which hasn?t been cemented by some time spent physically together.
And even, if a face-to-face meeting is impractical ? a video call or phone call is better than an e-mail or purely Twitter relationship. Until you have actually taken that step to have a real time conversation, referrals and opportunities are unlikely to flow from that person.
With the arrival of social networking, a networker?s tool kit is now huge. But, just as you wouldn?t use a hammer to crack a nut, knowing which tool for which job is the key to networking effectively and efficiently.
There are definitely times when face-to-face has the edge, and times when online networking is better. The trouble is that most networkers get into a comfort zone, and tend to stick with what they know - and for many networkers that means being blinkered and choosing online OR face-to-face networking.
in my research for 'The Financial Times Guide To Business Networking', I found that the most effective networkers were both curious, but also willing to experiment. They didn't see any boundaries between personal and professional, online and off line networking - they were always open for networking, and tirelessly looking for the best ways to make and keep a valuable connection.
What do you think?
